Alpha receives $10,000 grant from Heinz Endowments
Friends of Alpha, we have some very good news.
Alpha has received a $10,000 grant from the Heinz Endowments, a Pittsburgh-based philanthropic organization. The Heinz Endowments supports efforts to make Southwestern Pennsylvania a premier place to live and work, a center for learning and educational excellence, and a region that embraces diversity and inclusion. They see our region as a proving ground for programs and initiatives they hope will solve national challenges in their five areas of concentration: Arts & Culture; Children, Youth & Families; Community & Economic Development; Education; and Environment.
The grant money will be awarded in installments over the next three years, funding scholarships for admitted students for whom workshop tuition presents a financial hardship.
Alpha is in its thirteenth year of bringing together creative youth, and this grant couldn’t come at a better time. The workshop is ready to grow. We want to reach out to young writers from all walks of life, offering them the opportunity to perfect their craft, jump-starting their careers in the fields of science fiction, fantasy and horror. We appreciate the generous support of the Heinz Endowments, and we’re excited to see where this grant takes us.
